The Birth
A place to tell the story you've been carrying
A three-session therapeutic experience to explore, reflect on and make sense of your birth story.
A place to tell the story you've been carrying.
Maybe you've told your birth story again and again, maybe you've shortened it into a few sentences or perhaps you carry it quietly.
Birth can change how we understand ourselves, our bodies, our relationships and the world around us. Yet after birth, when the focus naturally moves towards the baby, you may have found very little space to reflect on what happened.
We carry our babies for months. We may carry the story of their birth for years.
Sometimes we need someone who is genuinely interested in hearing the whole story.
The Birth is a therapeutic space to tell, explore and make sense of your birth story with a HCPC registered Dramatherapist.
There may be nothing to solve, you might not even want answers, but your story deserves some space.
What is The Birth?
The Birth is a three-session therapeutic experience for anyone who has given birth. Every birth story is welcome here. You do not need to describe your birth as traumatic for it to have mattered. Equally, if trauma is an important part of your story, that is welcome here too.
You might come because:
You find yourself thinking about your birth often.
There are parts of your story you have never really had space to explore.
Your birth was different from what you expected.
You have questions about how your experience has shaped you.
You had a positive birth but still feel there is more you want to understand.
You are reflecting on the transition into parenthood.
Your experience was very difficult, but all you hear from those around you is, "At least you and baby are healthy now."
Whether you are weeks, months or many years after giving birth, the story is still worth telling.
Over three 90-minute sessions, we'll explore your story together. There is no pressure to remember everything or to talk about anything before you're ready. Some people spend most of the session talking. Others find themselves drawing, writing or using objects to help tell their story. We'll find the approach that feels right for you
The three sessions
Before the Birth
The story of birth begins before labour.
Together we explore the person you were before becoming a parent and your hopes, expectations, fears and the experiences that shaped your relationship with birth.
The Birth
This is the session to tell your birth story in whatever way feels right for you.
For some people this begins with conversation. For others, memories emerge through images, sensations, writing or creative exploration.
Using Dramatherapy, we gently explore your experience and what it means to you.
After the Birth
Birth does not end when a baby arrives.
Becoming a parent changes us.
Together we reflect on who you have become, what you are carrying from your experience, and how your birth story fits into the wider story of your life.
Inclusivity
A space for every story
The Birth is open to anyone who has given birth and would like space to explore, reflect on and make sense of their experience.
My practice is LGBTQ+ affirming, and I warmly welcome women, trans and non-binary people.
I have professional and lived experience of neurodivergence.
I want The Birth to feel like a safe and accessible space where you can bring your whole story.
If you have any accessibility needs or questions about taking part, please get in touch. We can talk through what would help you feel comfortable, including meeting online or exploring options for an accessible in-person space where possible.
